WHAT ARE HARMONICS
The presence of harmonics in electrical systems means that current and voltage are distorted and deviate from sine waveforms. In North America, the usable energy for equipment is 60 Hertz and is called fundamental frequency. Any other integer multiple of the fundamental 60 Hertz is excess consumption for a facility, or in other words, Harmonics. Quality can be defined as stable voltage an undistorted waveforms. As we connect more electronic devices to our power systems, the quality of power becomes more critical. The flow of harmonic currents interact with the distribution system's impedance and in turn distort the supply voltage and creates energy out of its proper phase and polarity.
